TOME

February 26th, 2010

From my new book, hopefully to be completed June 2010. The names have been abbreviated to protect the semi-fictionalized.

M: Man.

E: Shit yes, that sounded awesome!

M:  I think it could use some more beer.

E: It felt like we were erasing time, man.

M: Haha, right.

E:  Seriously, I think we, like, transcended what it means to be alive just there.

M: Probably, I mean, that makes sense.

E: I don’t know. All I’m saying is: that kicked ass.

M: Yes, it did. Do you want a beer?

E:  Damn right, I — <hits drums> Thanks, you. Did you listen to that TOMBS album? God damn…

M: A little bit. Pretty cool. Sounds like Torche kinda.

E:  Yeah, but it’s got a bit heavier of a metal presence, I think. More like, uh, I dunno, if Torche listened to a little more… Shit, I dunno. It’s closer to Neurosis, I think, but I don’t really listen to Neurosis so I’m not sure. Pretty gnarly vocals compared to Torche. That may be the main difference.

Shame

I was going to post some photos today that I took yesterday. Some of my car, the entire passenger side of which is now gray (and beautiful), and some of my dinner last night, which capped a crazy day of eating like a middle-schooler (breakfast: Honey Smacks, lunch: pizza, dinner: mac and cheese + hot dog). I will do that tomorrow, I guess. Instead, today, speaking of middle school, here’s a picture of Billie Joe looking particularly like a Tyrannosaurus Rex:

Apparently this was taken in Chicago and is nominated for Billboard’s “photo of the year” award or some shit. As a guy who lives in Chicago, loves dinosaurs, has taken photos, still has a soft spot for Green Day despite not caring about the new album, and likes billboards, I can safely say that this is a pretty stupid picture to be considered for such an “honor.” If we’re going to discuss iconic 2009 photos of bands in Chicago featuring dinosaurs, I think we need look no further back than December and right here in this blog:

(That’s a skateboarding T-Rex on my BRAIN VACATION shirt, by the way.)

Uhh… Words…

I’ve been thinking about language and books a lot lately. Last night, this led me to the dictionary, where I decided to see what the first few pages look like. It turns out that there’s a whole section where they talk about the history of the English language and a bunch of other stuff… I suppose it ended up being as boring as this story, but really quite an interesting discovery at the same time. But that’s neither here nor there, just yet…

Hot on the heels of MASSIVE INDIFFERENCE’s speaker-breaking recorded debut (I finished about half of the printing in the letterpress shop today… more news on that soon), here’s another song. For those keeping track, we now have three songs with lyrics. No melodies or instrumental parts figured out, really, but that shouldn’t take too long.

————-

i don’t care what time it is
i’ve had enough of it
alarm is buzzing, not for long
once the snooze button’s hit

my bed is warm and does not judge
it might be my best friend
the clock is foe to toasty toes
i hope sleep never ends

life’s not really all that bad
the day-to-day’s alright
but that don’t change the simple truth
i wish now was last night

my only fear: to leave right here
my bed is rock, my body moss
when i move on here’s where i’ll be
i’ll hit snooze on humanity

It Really Happened

Aside from fucking around on Friday night, we also recorded the hour-long “minute immeasurable” this weekend. I’m pretty happy with it, but I’m not happy with the numerous hours I put in to post-production. So much work to make something so dumb. That clock keeps ticking…

Today in class I wrote “BANANAS!” on my banana peel. Then I went home and painted another piece of my car grey.
