Direct Hit!/Mixtapes Split
April 5th, 2012Direct Hit! is a punk band from Milwaukee. They are cool and I’m going to be doing some art for them in the future. And, it turns out, in the past:

This is a brand new (2012) cover for their 2010 split 7″ with the band Mixtapes from Ohio. DH! had just a few copies of the record left and they happened to not have covers. Instead of re-printing the original, however, they asked me to design a new one.
For the sake of continuity I employed the same color palette as was used before (the pink also matches the bubblegum-colored vinyl). I took the photo in my shower and then illustrated the rest:

Now, when I say just a few, I mean it — they had fewer than 20 copies of this record left — but it was still a nice surprise to hear that they sold out less than half an hour after they were posted to the DH! store (earlier today). Surely that’s more a credit to the bands involved than the artist, but then again, don’t call me Shirley.
E-WASTED.NET bonus trivia: Direct Hit! was one of the bands we went and saw at The Hell Hole just over a year ago.
