Walls of Death – BRAIN VACATION Studio Diary Part I
July 25th, 2012I spent about 6 hours in Max’s basement on Sunday recording drums for four BRAIN VACATION songs. It was probably one of the most difficult things I have ever done for a number of reasons:
1) Realistically: I have it pretty good most of the time.
2) Physically: Drumming for 6 hours is very exhausting.
3) Emotionally: Recording drums requires perfection (or at least facing crushing failure enough times to finally, with a broken spirit, settle on something resembling “good enough”).
4) Mentally: No windows, black walls, and the incessant clicking of the metronome in my ears. It felt like some kind of prison/torture.
The good news is that there are only 7 songs to go! …And probably also those first 4 which I’ll want to do over again. Shit!

Other, real good news is that I launched wallofyouth.com! This is my latest thing. Wall of Youth is the “record label” on which this upcoming BVLP will be released, as well as the “brand” I’ve created in order to gather and present my “punk rock” illustration and design. It seemed like it was time to separate that stuff from my normal portfolio website (which is in need of an update as well). Some super-sweet Wall of Youth news coming soon.
